What does Stratton Church of God teach?
Our Beliefs
At Stratton Church of God, we know our beliefs are what define us. Some of our beliefs are defined below:
About the Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority on all matters of faith. (2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12-13; Romans 15:4) It is God's letter to His children to help us better get to know Him and His perspectives on life.
About God
We believe in one God who created all things and who exists in three persons (Trinity): Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-28; Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9-10)
About Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was resurrected from death, and ascended to heaven where he sits at the Father’s right hand. We believe that Jesus will come again to claim his bride, the Church. And Jesus is the only way we can truly be connected with God (John 3:16; Matthew 1:18; Romans 5:6-11; John 20:24-31; John 14:6; Acts 4:12)
About the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within all believers, empowering our lives with His presence and power to live a godly life and accomplish God’s will. The Holy Spirit is God and is the intimate voice God speaks into our lives. (John 16:5-15; Romans 8:10-11; 1 Cor. 3:16)
About Death
We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. The saved will inherit eternal life whereas the unsaved will be eternally separated from God. (Romans 8:9-14; Daniel 12:2; John 6:47)
About Salvation
We believe that salvation is God’s gift of grace to all who believe. This grace comes when we put our faith in Jesus Christ, His death on the cross and His subsequent resurrection from the dead. (Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:8-11; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9)
About Receiving Christ
We believe the Biblical pattern for receiving Christ includes acknowledging that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, repenting from our personal sin, and inviting Christ to be Leader in all parts of our lives. (1 John 1:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 6:1-7)
About the Church
We believe that there is only one Church and that Church is made up of Christian believers everywhere. The Bible uses descriptive terms like the body of Christ and bride of Christ. We are sons and daughters of God because we have been adopted into His family. (Matthew 16:13-18; Acts 2:14-47, John 1:12-13, Romans 8:14-17)
About Baptism, Communion, and Baby Dedications
We believe in water baptism by immersion for persons who have accepted Christ as their Savior. We practice regular observance of communion as a means of remembering Christ’s sacrifice and death on the cross. We perform child dedications to acknowledge the parents’ desire to raise their child in the ways and instruction of the Lord. (Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Proverbs 22:6)
